To simplify, let us take as an example a concrete wall that measures 20 meters in length and 10 meters in height. The wall has a course to rough surface and we want to paint it with a Semi-Gloss Latex Paint.
What are the things that we will be needing:
1. Semi-Gloss Latex Paint- semi gloss or gloss latex paint are good because they are easy to maintain and does not attract dirts.
2. Concrete Primer -this is design to promote optimal paint and stain adhesion
3. Neutralizer - is a liquid acidic substance that is to be mixed with water to neutralize lime activity in new masonry surfaces
Now, how to compute for the quantity:
1. First we need to know what will be the total area of the wall we want to paint. This is done by multiplying the walls's length by it's height:
Wall Area
= Length x Height
= 20 meters x 10 meters
= 200 square meter
2. To get the total quantity Semi-Gloss Latex paint, we need to divide the wall's total area by the total area that 1 gallon of paint can cover. As mentioned above, 1 gallon of paint can cover a minimum of 30 square meter:
Total Paint Quantity
= Total Wall Area / Paint Coverage per gallon
= 200 square meter / 30 square meter
= 6.67 or 7 gallons
3. To get the total quantity of concrete primer, same computation as above:
Total Concrete Primer Quantity
= Total Wall Area / Paint Coverage per gallon
= 200 square meter / 30 square meter
= 6.67 or 7 gallons
4. To get the total quantity of Neutralizer:
Total Wall Area / Neutralizer Coverage per gallon
= 200 square meter / 30 square meter
= 6.67 or 7 gallons
If 1 quart of Neutralizer is mixed with 2.5 gallons of water so:
7 gallons of neutralizer / 2.5 gallons of water
Total Quantity of Neutralizer = 2.8 or 3 quartz
You can now estimate the total cost by multiplying total number of gallons by the market price per gallon. Example:
Total Paint Cost
= 12 gallons x P 900.00 per gallon
= P 10,800.00 and so on
